Toy Trains and Christmas

Almost as long as there have been railroads and trains, there have also been toy trains. There is a long and colorful association between toy trains and the traditions of Christmas, and for many Americans, they evoke warm and sentimental feelings.

Beginning at 2 p.m., would-be engineers of all ages will have an opportunity to operate toy trains as they learn firsthand about them. Starting at 3 p.m., Pat Thrasher, an amateur railroad historian and a model railroader, will give an illustrated presentation that explores the role of trains in our Christmas traditions. Free and presented in partnership with the Grand Valley Historical Society, Rifle Heritage Center, and Silt Historical Park.

There will be three sessions, and you are invited to the one most convenient for you:

Saturday, November 23 • Silt Branch Library
Saturday, November 30 • Parachute Branch Library
Saturday, December 14 • Rifle Branch Library
