Spring Lecture Series

Americans All: Mexican American Identity in World War II

CU Boulder Postdoctoral Research Associate Natalie Mendoza, Ph.D. will discuss how Mexican American leaders in the U.S. Southwest used World War II, the Good Neighbor Policy, and historical narrative to broaden the meaning of who is an American. Mendoza will explain how reimagining American identity and civil rights priorities in the midst of the wartime emergency prompted the government to create a federal program focused, for the first time, on the needs of Mexican Americans.
