Meet the Author Featuring Darrell Munsell

Join local author Darrell Munsell to discuss his new book which documents a success story of grassroots environmental activism in our valley. After the discussion there will be books available for purchase and signing.

Munsell is professor emeritus, West Texas A&M, residing in Carbondale. He has written three other books on historical subjects, including "From Redstone To Ludlow" and most recently "Colorado Artist Jack Roberts: Painting the West".

The Crystal Valley Environmental Association (CVEPA) was founded in 1972 by a small group of Marble residents to oppose development of winter recreation areas that would absorb their small community. CVEPA would take on large mining and development organizations to stop polluting the Crystal River, worked with state and federal agencies to complete the Coal Basin Restoration, as well as a forty-year campaign to oppose the West Divide Project to divert water from the Crystal River. Munsell has captured never-before-written histories of the Marble Ski Area, West Divide Project, and the Coal Basin restoration through a state and national lens. Given its illustrious history, the successes of CVEPA were significant, long-lasting, and worth a listen.
