Art in the Stacks featuring Alice Bedard-Voorhees

Featured artist Alice Bedard-Voorhees' early studies were in poetry. While she has been writing poems for years, she has been making visual art in a focused way for about five years. Her series of 16"x20" mixed media and acrylic paintings is inspired by a form of poetry known as tanka (similar to haiku). Tanka poems typically consist of 31 syllables and are broken into 5 lines. The marks in each painting come from the 31 syllables and 5 lines of the poetic form. Each painting comes to life by laying down the marks and integrating the form with paint, texture, or collage elements.

Join us on Friday, December 14 from 3 to 5 p.m. for a chance to meet the artist and learn more about her work. Light refreshments will be served, and the event is free and open to the public. The art will be on display through the end of December.
