Meet Your Librarian: Karol Sacca

Karol Sacca is an addict…yep, that’s right: she’s addicted to books, always has been, and always will be she freely admits. A Colorado native, she grew up reading anything the town library had in stock. The love of literature led her to a teaching career and eventually into the school library. Her career there spanned over 30 years. After retiring several years ago, Karol joined the Parachute Branch Library as the manager.

In the past three years she and her team saw the old library completely remodeled and reopened to record breaking business. The library is a showcase for the community, and the community room is in high demand.

Karol and her husband of 44 years, Larry, moved to the Grand Valley over ten years ago when they located some acreage and an old farm house in need of tender loving care. “We bought the place to keep my husband busy, and that it has, with a massive garden and a herd of deer and turkeys that eat everything that is not protected.” While at home Karol loves to quilt and is a professional longarm quilter. “Every quilt tells a story and working on them makes me part of that story. I come from a long line of quilters. Both my grandmother and mother were quilters. I happen to mix technology into the art form by adding machine quilting. The hours I spend quilting are times for me to listen to a wide variety of books on tape.” 

Karol is the mother of two grown daughters: Stephanie, a teacher in Minturn, CO, and Emily, a nurse in Oklahoma. Karol’s pride and joy are her four grandchildren who allow her to read aloud many of the books that arrive in the library.
