Participate in the New Carbondale Branch Library's Art Installation
Local artist, Shannon Muse of Paradise Art Glass, is creating a permanent public art installation, entitled “Pillars of Light/Pilares de Luz,” for the new Carbondale Branch Library.
The multi-part sculptural piece will form the seven entryway columns on the front porch of the new library.
Glenwood Springs Construction Plans & Drawings
The Library District is working with Colorado Mountain College on the Cooper Commoms project, which will include a new library facility with space for CMC classes and offices above, as well as day parking for CMC staff and weekend and evening parking for the public.
Carbondale Construction Drawings & Plans
A new 13,000 square foot library is being built on the corner of Third and Sopris Streets. Construction began in July and the building is slated to open mid-summer 2013. The facility will feature a 100-person meeting room, as well as space for public art throughout the interior and exterior.

Libraries Believe in Keeping It Local
In 2006 the voters of Garfield County generously passed a measure to allow a 1 mill property tax to build or remodel all the libraries in the county. The library board has taken this directive seriously, and has pushed hard to get all six libraries built quickly so that each town can enjoy a wonderful new facility. In 2010 the remodel and expansion of the Parachute Branch Library was completed, and the all new Rifle Branch Library was also opened. In spring of 2012 the New Castle Branch Library reopened its doors after extensive renovations, and in the fall we opened a new Branch Library in Silt. Currently, the Glenwood Springs and Carbondale Branch Libraries are under construction with Glenwood Springs and Carbondale both slated to be finished by mid-to-late 2013.
