Climate Change: Where We Are Now & Where We Are Going
Join professor James White at the Rifle Branch Library at 7:00 pm on Thursday, August 16th for a public review of how the human race affects Earth's climate system. We humans are having larger and larger impacts on the planet as we grow in numbers, and as countries such as China, India and Brazil industrialize and require more resources. We will explore some of those impacts, with an emphasis on climate, viewing the issues not only as science issues, but as a social and ethical issues as well. We will focus on two key questions: what is our impact? And what is our responsibility?

Mammoths and Mastodons and Sloths, Oh My!
Come to the New Castle Branch Library at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, July 31st where Jim Campbell, PhD, and Sandy Jackson, MA, both adjunct professors at Colorado Mountain College, will talk about their experiences at the Snowmass dig site during the summer of 2011. Participants will learn about the excavation process and what was discovered. The presentation will be geared toward adults but children and teens are welcome.

Museum Natural History Interactive Earth Science Program
Come to the Rifle Branch Library on Wednesday, July 11th at 7:00 pm when representatives from the University of Colorado's Museum of Natural History are coming to the Rifle Branch Library with objects and specimens from the museum's collections. Museum representatives will set up interactive stations and host earth science activities for families that communicate the science being studied at the museum.
Agriculture: Conserving Water in a Big Way
The Middle Colorado River Water Partnership (MCRWP) will speak on water conservation by local agriculture producers in the Middle Colorado River Watershed.
The Colorado River: Flowing through Conflict
The Rifle Branch Library is excited to host Peter McBride's & Jonathan Waterman's travelling photo exhibition, "The Colorado River: Flowing Through Conflict," which will be on display from May 25th through September 30th at the Rifle Branch Library.
Mammal Skulls of Colorado
Come to the Rifle Branch Library on Wednesday, June 27th to learn about mammal skulls of Colorado! This interactive presentation will use skulls of various mammals which can be found in Colorado. The participants will learn how to differentiate between skulls of carnivores, herbivores, and omnivores. They will also learn about predator and prey species. The skulls are used to look at the teeth, jaw structure, eye sockets, and cranial ridges.
Bat Bedtime Storytime
Come to the Rifle Branch Library at 6:30 on Tuesday, July 17th for Bat Bedtime Storytime.
Preschool age children can listent to bat stories, create a fun bat craft, and enjoy special bat treats. This program is concurrent with Got Bats?- a program for older children and adults.
